Working principle
Power transmission: Gears transmit motion and power through the meshing of teeth. When the teeth of two gears mesh with each other, the driving gear (input shaft) rotates, and its tooth surface squeezes the tooth surface of the driven gear, transferring kinetic energy to the driven gear (output shaft).
Movement direction change: The rotation direction of external meshing gears (such as parallel axis spur gears) is opposite; If an idler gear (intermediate gear) is added, the steering direction of the driving wheel and the driven wheel can be kept consistent.
Speed and torque regulation: Speed is inversely proportional to the number of teeth, and gears with more teeth have lower speed but higher output torque. By combining gears with different numbers of teeth (gear pairs), deceleration/acceleration or torque increase/decrease can be achieved.
Tooth profile design: commonly used involute tooth profile to ensure smooth transmission and reduce friction during meshing process.
